Takeno Jōō Jōō was born in Sakai, a small fairly peaceful town within a war filled time. It was run by traders and merchants. Takeno Jōō worked as a leather merchant, waka poet, and tea ceremony master during the Sengoku period in Japan. When he was 39 he took a disciple by the name of Sen no Rikyū.
